PHILADELPHIA, PA – Texas and Minnesota faced off earlier this year at the Big O where the Texecutioners took the win, 193-133. This time around Texas found the great wall of St. Paul a bit more permeable while strengthening their own defense to earn a final win, 280-153.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The BELIEVANCE of the #6-ranked Texas Rollergirls woke up early to take on the legends of the #3 Gotham Girls Roller Derby. The last time these two teams faced off was in June of 2016 at Thin Air Throwdown, where Gotham won by 117 points. They have not met in the post season since Champs 2014.

In a game with eight lead changes, Gotham’s tenacity at Texas’s persistence was more eye-opening at 10AM than a red-eye coffee; Gotham squeaked out the win 148-145.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Rat City Roller Girls (#18 in WFTDA) came into Championships after a hard loss to Montréal in the bronze medal game in Seattle. That weekend they played four games highlighted by a 16-point upset against Jacksonville. Regrouped and calm, they hoped to overpower another strong top ten team, this time against the #6 Texas Rollergirls. The Texecutioners prevailed, however, and took a 254-128 win.

DALLAS, TX – The first place game between the #1 seeded Victorian Roller Derby and the #2 seeded Texas was a physical battle for points and position. The two teams hadn’t met since The Big O 2016 in Eugene, OR where VRDL won 130-114. Though Victoria earned an early lead this time around that would not be challenged throughout the game, Texas kept things interesting with aggressive- a little bit old school- defense. VRDL ended the tournament with a gold medal, 193-50 with Texas taking silver.

DALLAS, TX – The last game of the day was a Texan battle between host league #34-ranked Dallas Derby Devils and #6-ranked Texas Rollergirls. Dallas ended up matching Texas in the number of jammers and overall penalties, but the ability of the Texecutioners to pull off big scoring jams and hold Dallas scoreless for the last 10 jams of the game put the win solidly in their hands.

Texas and Dallas met early in the season and then Texas beat them 277-66, so despite their loss, Dallas improved by a difference of 52 points. Olivia Shootin’ John’s 100% lead status and 82 points in six jams helped lead Texas to a 248-89 victory.
