Our life in roller derby has always reminded me of a walk in the mountains. A challenging journey that takes us above the humdrum world. An all-encompassing adventure. We can look around on this journey and see others walking alongside us, some ahead, some behind, some on other mountain slopes altogether. Our friends and our enemies all walking together, and a thousand others we don’t even know.

DALLAS,TX – After a long weekend, around 70 games, and 3043 total points scored by Team USA to their opponents’ 197, they fought their way to a convincing 1st place win in the 2nd Roller Derby World Cup. Of all of their opponents, England gave the United States the hardest battle and gained the majority of points scored against them. The teams brought a rowdy conclusion to the weekend complete with off the track rivalry in the stands, with a final game score of 219-105, Team USA’s lowest scoring game in the competition.

DALLAS, TX – The first jam gave us the phrase that was indicative of how the rest of the game would play out: jammer penalties. After three in the first minute and thirty seconds of gameplay that jam ended at 0-0, but then the next ten minutes were slow going. After that, England pulled away with the help of power jams, but by the half Canada had closed up the gap with some of their own. After Canada continued their run in the second half, with Konichiwow leading their defense, Mainey and many of her London teammates hung on with demoralizing packs and forced Canada on more penalties.

England took the win, and now moves onto the Final game, 156-112, and play Team USA at 7pm. Canada plays Australia for 3rd place at 5pm. (The final was formerly at 5pm, but World Cup organizers have since added the 3rd place game.)

DALLAS, TX– The third day of games at the Roller Derby World Cup became the beginning of the end for the final eight bracket.  While some of the closest, most exciting games played out on the consolation track, the largest crowds showed their allegiance on tracks 1 and 2 with roaring cheers for those final 16 teams who battled it to make the finals. The winning eight teams from tracks 1 and 2 were seeded into the final bracket by point differential, and after the quarter final games played out, todays final game match-ups will be USA vs Australia, and Canada vs England. Blood & Thunder did announce a third place game today, which alters the day’s schedule slightly.
