DALLAS, TX – The 9th place game was an opportunity for Rideau Valley to better their position by 1 spot but staunch defense from Ohio Roller Girls and strong jamming thwarted Rideau Valley’s efforts. Ohio Roller Girls came away with 9th place seeding intact and their first win of the tournament, winning 251-208.

Dallas, TX — The second day of Dallas D1 playoffs brought international competitors from Sweden and Canada to the track as Stockholm Roller Derby lined up against Rideau Valley Roller Girls for the first game of Saturday’s match-ups. Both teams came in fresh off a loss on Friday, Rideau Valley having fallen to Sun State by 72 points and Stockholm losing out to Rat City by 131. Owing to their early losses, today’s game offered the victor a shot at clinching an overall 5th place finish, while the loser will play again Sunday for a chance at coming in 9th.

DALLAS, TX – The black and yellow Sun State Swarm took on the white and gold Rideau Valley in Game 2, which made the game Australia versus Canada. With about a dozen jammer penalties for each team, each had opportunities to push the score, but Sun State was able to pull away enough in the first half to carry through to the end. Swarm’s slower, more controlled defense may have been what maintained their lead through the second half, but Rideau Valley didn’t go down with a lack of offense. Sun State took the game 190-118 in their first win of their first playoff experience, sending Rideau Valley to the consolation bracket.

The Division 1 WFTDA Playoffs continue with a tournament in Dallas this weekend, and this will be the most diverse bracket of them all. Of the 13 teams from outside the United States that are participating in 2015 playoffs, 4 are in this bracket with 3 teams making their first appearance at WFTDA tournaments. The host league, Dallas, is also making a return after not making the top 60 last year, and participating in Division 2 the year before. The uncertainty of these teams gives this weekend the makings of a bracket buster.

The top 3 teams of this weekend will join Victoria, Bay Area, and Arch Rival in St. Paul this November. Catch all the action live on WFTDA.tv, or catch up on games with our recaps and scores at Dallas Central. Hear more about this bracket with Brooklyn’s article on WFTDA’s playoff blog.
