MALMO, SWEDEN – After a nail-biting tournament-entry game against London that left many people marveling at the upwards trajectory of Rainy City, the quality of play for this game looked like it might belie the exit placing the two teams were aiming for. Charm City has had less luck at this tournament, but similar game history with a loss to Helsinki.

In the end, as has been the trend with this tournament, the seedings won out. Rainy City claimed an emphatic win against Charm City with a score of 258-78.

MALMO, SWEDEN – The first game of Day 2 saw #6 Rainy City rise up against #3 London Brawling, the winner to advance to Championships, and take on the winner of #2 Denver Roller Derby v #7 Stockholm Roller Derby at 8pm CEST later today.

The game was defined by slow pushing braced walls that often separated into two distinct formations often linked by a Rainy City bridge, that would at times break off either to provide much-needed offense or offer additional support to Rainy City’s wall. For the majority of the game, Rainy City commanded the lead, even if only by a few points. Halfway through the second half, London was able to take advantage of Rainy City’s blocker penalties to build momentum and take the lead, ending the game on top, 124-119.

MALMO, SWEDEN – #6 Rainy City Roller Derby has big shoes to fill. In the Seattle Division 1 playoff, the 6 Seed was Rat City Rollergirls who captured a spot to Championships against all odds.

Rainy City has a changing of the guard on their mind. Last year, Rainy had a quick rise to glory. They made their North American debut at Beach Brawl and decimated all who stood before them, landing them in the Columbia Division 1 playoff. This year, their playoff seeding could give them a shot at #3 London Rollergirls, whom they lost to at Anarchy in the UK earlier this year by only 38 points.

In the end, that rise was unstoppable, as Calgary was bested by Rainy City, 324-81.
