The WFTDA had released its first rankings update since Championships, and as of November 30th, 2015 it’s not really surprising that Gotham is still #1 even though they suffered their first loss in 5 years at the hands of Rose City. Since a team’s ranking is comprised of an average of points earned from 12 months of games, things can take awhile to change as more games are played. (For more information, go here for the rankings white papers.)

Here are some highlights of where things lay now in the top 100 ranked teams compared to January.

JACKSONVILLE, FL- Considering at the beginning of the calendar year, Glasgow and Pikes Peak found themselves positioned within the WFTDA’s hierarchy at #73 and #93, respectively. Nine months later, and now entrenched in the governing body’s Top 40, both wanted to end their breakthrough seasons on a high note at the Jacksonville playoff’s ninth place game on Sunday morning.

Propelled by a high-octane offense, aided by eight second period power jams, the seventh-seeded Irn Bruisers (#26) topped Pikes Peak (#36), 247-153, to claim ninth place in its inaugural WFTDA playoff trek and finish the season 4-3. The ninth-seeded Derby Dames, making its first post-season appearance since 2009, concluded the season 5-4 with the 94-point setback.

JACKSONVILLE, FL — The 2015 WFTDA International D1 Playoffs at Jacksonville opened up with the 8th and 9th seed game between Steel City Steel Hurtin’ (#29 in WFTDA) and Pikes Peak (#36 in WFTDA). What appeared to be a blowout from the first jams turned into an intense game where the winner was not determined until the last jam—even then, after the clock expired an official review threatened to change the results. After a wave of jammer penalties early on against Pikes Peak that resulted in an early lead for Steel City, Pikes Peak Derby Dames made smart adjustments at halftime that spurred an impressive comeback. Despite a final quarter filled with penalties against Steel City, Pikes Peak only briefly gained the lead before another jammer penalty stripped them of the win. Steel City clung to their victory over Pikes Peak, 209-205.
