DALLAS, TX – The consolation game between the Philly Liberty Belles and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk Bombshells was a clash of two exceptionally disciplined defenses that never lost sight of each other. Jammers from both teams fought a war of attrition, with low scoring but long-running jams that left them either pushing against walls that wouldn’t budge or knocked out and dragged far behind the pack. Strong performances from Herrmann Monster and Buenos D. A$$ proved the deciding factor as Philly held on to defeat Santa Cruz 156-106.

DALLAS, TX – With the world of flat track derby still learning how to cope with the new tournament structure, they find themselves faced already with the final Division 1 Playoff of the season. Kicking off the weekend was the game predicted to be the closest throughout the weekend with #8 seed Philly Roller Derby taking on #9 seed Arizona Roller Derby.

Arizona came out fired up and ready to break some brackets. It’s been since April since Arizona has played a team ranked above #30, but they did not look rusty at all. Philly, who has had an intense season between Tiny Tourney and SweatFest, looked confused and shaken early on. After an early Arizona lead, Philly pulled ahead and ultimately took the win 163-108.

VANCOUVER, BC – Rematch time. Philly Roller Derby lost their Championship invite last year for the first time since the WFTDA existed to Rat City Rollergirls. #4 Philly has been working all season to combat the rumor that they were no longer relevant, just because they had more than 10 retirements and transfers at the beginning of 2016. #3 Rat City on the other hand has been working all year to solidify their potency. Both teams approached this game hungry for Bronze, but Rat City succeeded with victory again 134-114.

VANCOUVER, BC – In their first match up in almost two years, Saturday afternoon pitted Victorian Roller Derby League of Melbourne, VIC, Australia (#2 in WFTDA) against Philly Roller Derby of Philadelphia, PA, USA (#13 in WFTDA). While both teams would mount similar blocking styles, Philly simply couldn’t control the onslaught of scoring by Victoria, and the Australians secured their spot at Champs with a win 258-61.
