SEATTLE, WA – Seeding Sunday kicked off with a rematch 11 years in the making. #11 Dairyland Dolls and #4Bay Area Derby last met in a different derby universe: the 2006 Dust Devil, where Madison took the win, 27 – 14.

Different charters, different strategy, different mindset set up a much different game this time around. The walls of Bay Area were as strong as ever, against a team that others might have underestimated, but nonetheless those walls won the day, 241-140.

SEATTLE, WA – Home turf advantage seemed to rule the day, as the #6 seeded Rat City overcame a feisty #11 seed Mad Rollin’ Dolls in the second game of the first day of Division 1 WFTDA playoffs in the Emerald City. Rat City was fighting to carve out a shot at working their way up the bracket in search of a medal, while Madison seemed initially hell bent on furthering their reputation as bracket busters.

September 1st through the 3rd will kick off the Division 1 portion of WFTDA Tournament season in Seattle, Washington, hosted by the Rat City Rollergirls. After the massive 30-game tournament that was Division 2 two weeks ago, this weekend will conclude after 16 games played by 12 teams. While overall D1 was reduced to three brackets, each was expanded by two more teams which will mean that some teams will only end up playing two games this year.

While perhaps a little more predictable, Division 1 tournaments consist of the top teams in WFTDA, and as the sport grows, there’s always room for surprises. This year, the top four teams will make it out of the weekend alive and attend Championships this November in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Watch this tournament on WFTDA.tv and follow our coverage here on our website, or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

After the award ceremony on Sunday, WFTDA will also announce seeding for the Champs bracket in Portland, Oregon this November.
