The day of 2017 re-matches continued with two powerhouse teams, #42-ranked Tucson Saddletramps and #44 Jet City Bombers, facing off at 4pm EDT on Sunday to take home the 5th place spot. At Besterns in June, Tucson found themselves defeated by Jet City 209-119. With both teams having agile jammers and strong shapes of defense, predictions for this game were all over.

Game 17, between #44-ranked Jet City and #49-ranked No Coast started out with two leads by No Coast followed by a point swing by Jet City. Jet City then held the lead for the rest of the game, but No Coast was sure to make them work for it.

Jammer penalties kept No Coast from making much traction in the first half. But strong and consistent jamming by Slam carried them through the second half, almost to victory. Jet City’s commitment to offense and capitalization of power jams kept them on top, and after a tough battle, Jet City knocked No Coast out of the tournament with a win of 182-163.

WICHITA, KS – To get to the 3rd place game of the first WFTDA Playoff of the 2016 tournament season, both the #1 seed Jet City Bombers and #3 seed Nashville Music City All Stars pulled off last minute wins on Friday and then fell to lower seeds on Saturday. Jet City proved they had plenty of fight in them for 60 minutes of play while Nashville has had a slow start to a lot of their games this season.

In the second half it seemed as if the #46 ranked Music City All Stars were mounting their usual comeback, but the #42 Bomber’s ability to get lead status kept them ahead from start to finish, taking the bronze medal with a 132-118 win against Nashville.

WICHITA, KS – As a team who started at the bottom of the D2 bracket the past two seasons, Brandywine’s #4 seed this year into this playoff tournament put them in the prime position to fight their way all the way to the top. Against the #1 seed they proved their defensive game heartily, but showed some weakness in their penalty count.

Jet City, however, knew how to attack when the time was right, but their slow start in the first half dug them a hole they couldn’t get out of in the final minutes of play. With a score of 198-170, Brandywine upset Jet City on day 2 for a place in the Championship game on Sunday.
