MALMO, SWEDEN – Detroit started off this game strong with smooth jamming up the outside lines, and strong defense that resulted in a dominant first half.

In the second half, Terminal City was able to earn lead status roughly half of the time, which helped combat some blocker penalties that began to take their on the team toll late in the game.

Despite the penalty trouble, Terminal City did mount a comeback attempt in the last third of the second half, but it came too late to surpass the early lead Detroit built. In the end, Detroit carried the win, 257 – 181.

DETROIT, MI – As a D1 tournament team last year, Naptown (#48) finished 6th in Charleston, while Chicago Outfit (#52) picked up 5th at the D2 tournament in Kitchener-Waterloo. Meeting up this year in D2, the two mid-western teams hadn’t faced off since 2010, when Naptown came away with the win, twice.

Chicago kept things fairly even in the first half, but Naptown’s defensive dominance locked onto the Outfit, helping their jammers get lead status to control the second half of play. With the addition of offense off the line, it was the one-two punch combo that the Tornado Sirens needed to result in their 190-107 win, placing 3rd.

DETROIT, MI-It was clear from the very start of Sunday’s fifth place game at Detroit playoffs that Wasatch Roller Derby was hungry to finish their run on as strong a note as possible. Although an impressive comeback effort was made by Bear City in the second half, Wasatch will end their weekend in the same place they finished it, maintaining their 5 seed ranking with a 203-152 win.

D2D 7th Place: #8 Sac City (#56) polishes off #3 Emerald City (#47), 199-184

DETROIT, MI – Sunday’s noon match-up pitted #3 seed Emerald City against #8 Sac City, as both teams gathered on the track to face off in the battle for 7th place in the weekend’s tournament. Both competitors arrived to the game with one win and two losses apiece. Emerald City surely held out hope to redeem themselves after losing out to two lower-seeded teams earlier in the weekend, yet despite their efforts, they did not capitalize upon power jam opportunities in the same way Sac City managed to do, ultimately bringing home an 8th place finish after Sac City sealed the score at 199-184.
