MALMÖ, SWEDEN – With the added oomph of Scald Eagle under their wings, Denver is a team to beat this playoff weekend. Despite their best efforts to topple the soaring team, Stockholm was unable to take the wind out from under them. Denver came out of this second game for Saturday with a solid win, 330-152.

The Big O Tournament has been a platform for WFTDA, MRDA, and Junior roller derby teams to hit the track since 2011. In 2017 there are 16 WFTDA teams, 9 MRDA, and 4 junior teams in Eugene, Oregon from four different continents.

Coming up this weekend: the annual Big O Invitational in Eugene, Oregon (USA). While there have already been a few high-level tournaments already this season, this has become one of the most highly anticipated WFTDA Recognized Tournaments since it’s the first time we see many of the top-ranked teams back on the track each year.

There will be a few exciting rematches from last year, some new teams to watch, and plenty of roller derby on three tracks for three days. Are you ready?

The first Division 1 contest of the 2016 International WFTDA Championships in Portland, OR brought together the Denver Roller Derby Mile High Club of Denver, CO (7th in WFTDA) and the Arch Rival Roller Derby All-Stars of St. Louis, MO. While Arch Rival came in one position below Denver, they won in a tight 3 point game at this year’s Sibling Rivalry. Arch Rival would go on to repeat the close win 177 to 165 sending Denver home.

The 2016 WFTDA Championship tournament is taking place in Portland, Oregon and is hosted by reigning champions the Rose City Rollers. As a #1 seed for Division 1, they get a bye on Friday which means that all of the D1 #2 and #3 seeds battle it out on the first day for a spot in the quarter final round on Saturday. After the Division 2 semi-final games, D1 will start up and the first day is looking to be a series of good match ups.
