The WFTDA had released its first rankings update since Championships, and as of November 30th, 2015 it’s not really surprising that Gotham is still #1 even though they suffered their first loss in 5 years at the hands of Rose City. Since a team’s ranking is comprised of an average of points earned from 12 months of games, things can take awhile to change as more games are played. Just six months ago, we were discussing the growth of Roller Derby, specifically to the WFTDA, and how 20% of the top 60 teams were from outside the United States. At the time, only seven of those leagues were in the top 40. Now 12 non-U.S. teams are headed to Division 1 playoffs and 1 is headed to Division 2.

The tournament season will also include 8 teams who are entirely new to playoffs, with a few more making a return after a year or more away from tournaments. With all this new blood in the mix, the 2015 WFTDA tournaments should be unpredictable and exciting.

This will be the third year that the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association has utilized Divisions for Playoffs, which provides more teams the opportunity to play, but arguably can be a costly trip for some. Ranking speculations about this year’s tournament season includes 8 participating countries, making these “International Tournaments”  true to their name.

We have gathered together a few lists, by some nerdy derby mathematicians, of the predicted top 60 teams, and how WFTDA’s recent announcements will affect those invited to a tournament this fall.
